It's been super hectic these past couple of weeks, hence the lack of posting. I've had fashion shoots for the magazine and events most nights... lucky I love my job!

Had an amazing shoot with the fabulous Domonique from Lily Love Lock clothing on Friday at Lofi studios. Here's a sneak peek....

I also took myself some new headshots today for the extras agencies I'm part of now I finally have my hair the way I like it. Here's a wee look!

How amazing are these leather trousers? Only £14.99 in H&M at the moment! Buy buy buy!

Saturday 27 August 2011

Great, so summer's over and the cold mornings are back. Sometimes I think it'd be easier to emigrate somewhere warmer than have to change my wardrobe so often. But then again, I do enjoy shopping.

The shops are getting in their first wave of Autumn stock, and it's looking good. You don't have to completely depart from your summer clothes as yet though. You just have to adapt.

I'm going to keep on wearing a maxi dress, but styling it with biker boots and a cropped leather jacket. Warm tootsies and instant rock chick points.

Here's a few bits perfect for the changing season in those gorgeous Autumn colours.

Zara Tunic with Zip £49.99

Zara V Back Dress £49.99

Zara Flat Ankle Boot - £69.99

Cos Bonded Wool Blazer £125

H&M Dress £24.99

H&M Waistcoat £34.99

I've no idea where the last couple of weeks have gone. They seem to have vanished along with the last of summer, leaving me standing in my open toed sandals dreaming of socks.

My friend Sophie alerted me to the Asos sale today. It really is bargain central. It's in its final few days, but you can now get an extra 20% off of the final sale price at the checkout. Here's a few of the things I would like to buy, but can't since I just had a mega Ebay splurge.

Anvil Suede Chelsea Boots - Were £70, now £21

Forgotten Heroes

They're the ultimate accessory, interchangeable with a wide selection of outfits. Chic, hobo, ladylike, tough... whatever your style. Let's talk bags. Without having one on a daily basis, I reckon I'd scramble myself pretty quickly. Something has to carry my life around for me! Keys, purse, lipbalm, comb, perfume, notebook, camera -I need it all. And while I need the functionality factor.... I want to get from day to day with wow.

Amused By Ameko Wing Tassel Drawstring Tote - £125 (Avaiable from Asos)
Perfect for a more relaxed look, this leather hobo bag with skull and tassle detail is great if you have a little rocker in you!
'Razzle Dazzle' Gold Metal Clutch Bag - £120 (vintage, available from www.itsvintagedarling.com)
This bag just screams vintage glamour and makes me want to don a ballgown, drink champagne and become transported back 50 years. As it's vintage, there's only one so if you want it you better be quick!

Polly Push Lock Tote - £895
Okay so I couldn't write about bags and not include one for us to dream about! Gorgeous, functional and fantastic quality. We love you Mulberry!

Bofa, sunshine and shades.

I had the loveliest weekend last week when Chris and I headed to Bridge of Allan to become child/teenager/dog sitter extraordinaires. Starting off at the Safari Park (minus the dog) was a somewhat stressful situation as I came up against my nemesis - DUCKS! Yep, that's right, they terrify me. Put me near any bird and I will run a mile. Not only were there ducks after out picnic, but also a gaggle of geese and a peacock. Excellent. We did see some baby ostrich and performing sea lions though so it was a fun afternoon all in.

On the boat to the Ape Island... I'm smiling but I'd been listening to a small child cry in my ear for over half an hour. Luckily the parents couldn't see me glowering at them from behind my Mango sun specs!

Allan Water Cafe Ice Cream - mega yum!

I'd like to say this is a normal weekend for me, and I really wish it was. It's mostly work at the weekend usually so a break away is always lovely, especially with great company.

Dances Like A Dream

I just had to share this little video for Robyn's new song 'Call Your Girlfriend'. The dance moves make me giggle. A pretty nifty tune though.

To Photoshop, or not to Photoshop?

I'm sure if you have any interest in makeup, or even just listen to the radio then you would have heard the news about the recently banned make up ads for Maybelline and Lancome.

Okay so the images are photoshopped. So what? Pretty much all of the advertising images we see around us are photoshopped in some way. I don't see how these two ads are any different from any other make up ad out there. We all know Julia Roberts does not have skin that flawless, and we know that foundation is never going to give us skin like Christy.

The thing is though, people love these images. I do. I know that the girls in the pictures don't look like that, and I know I certainly never will, but I can dream can't I! If they are going to ban these ads, where does the line stop? Who draws the line that says an extra minute in photoshop, has pushed it over the edge of acceptable? If it's a case of stopping images being airbrushed at all, most companies would be coming up with new advertising photos. No model, however gorgeous, is completely perfect. They all have bad days and heaven forbid, the occasional spot! How often do you see that in pictures? And would you like to? Probably not.

I know I'm guilty of photoshopping myself in night out pictures..... no one wants the world to see you have a spot afterall! And will I stop doing it?......... never!

Singalong

Very tired this evening after a having a fashion shoot yesterday. Don't get me wrong, I completely love doing them but they really do tire you out. Today all the pics were edited and ready to go to print. I love the feeling of getting the magazine in my hands and browsing through my work.

Anyways, I got home this evening and have been lying on the couch listening to some of my fave songs. It's a bit of a mish mash but that's what I love! I thought I'd share with you all my top 10 couch tunes (in no particular order).

1. Prince - Raspberry Beret
2. Death Cab For Cutie - Cath
3. Bright Eyes - First Day Of My Life
4. David Bowie - Oh You Pretty Things
5. Arcade Fire - No Cars Go
6. Bon Iver - For Emma
7. Michael Jackson - Black or White
8. Fyfe Dangerfield - Always A Woman
9. Noah and the Whale - Life is Life
10. Casimir Pulaski Day - Sufjan Stevens

And that's how you recover from a fashion shoot ladies and gents!

The Kooples

Who doesn't love French style? When it comes down to it, Paris really is the fashion capital. I've had many a daydream at the thought of living there, drinking coffee all day and partying with models by night. It's this young, edgy brand that has got me wishing for a new wardrobe. Started by three French brothers Alexander, Laurent and Raphael, the brand reached British shores last year with the opening of Kooples stores around London.

Everything about the brand oozes Parisian chic. The blazers are sharp, the trousers well tailored. And that's just for women. Their upsettingly gorgeous ad campaigns feature real life couples who I'm not sure should be allowed to be together on account of it making the rest of us feel bad. On the up side, they have a sale on!

Blazer, was £260, now £130.

Suit Trousers, were £150, now £72.50

Vest, was £135, now £67.50

Their upcoming collection collaboration with Pete Docherty is available from October 2011, and is sure to send Britains pretty young things into a spin.

Time To Dance

It has been so long since I had a proper big night out. Usually I have some kind of event to go to or would prefer a night on the sofa with a pack of jammy dodgers. Last night though, I went to my first ever Death Disco at the Arches. What a night! I was loving just how much effort everyone had gone to in getting dressed up. Okay, there were a few shockers, a lot of undercuts and some very sweaty men who thought it was okay to go taps aff (not okay guys!).

I decided to go for my trusty little black backless bodycon dress (try saying that three times fast!), with navy vintage turban, vintage necklace and Topshop heels. First time ever with white nails too.

New shoes.

I love love love my new shoes! They are by Swedish Hasbeens for H&M. A Swedish company (obviously), they make clogs. But not the kind of frumpy clog that wouldn't be out of place on a farm. Oh no. These are chic and ooze that simplistic Swedish style I so love. Check them out at www.swedishhasbeens.com/ and the collection for H&M at www.hm.com/gb/

Roll up!

In my head this week, I have been constantly planning what I will do when I win that £166million. Obviously it has not yet happened (Tuesday is another day though!) Being the bargain lover that I am if I had that kind of cash I'd be snapping up these little Net A Porter beauties straight away.

ALAÏA Embellished Leathers platform sandals - Was £1,140, now £570

lanvin paneled stretch-gabardine pants - was £555, now £333

a.l.c cashmere tuxedo cardigan - was £485, now £145.50

Slowly but surely I am remodeling my look and aiming for an overall more tailored impression. Don't get me wrong, I still love slouchy silks and what not, but there's just something super slick about leggings, a good blazer and a killer pair of heels.

Holiday time!

Sun glorious sun! It makes your skin glow and your overall happiness rocket. Lucky me, I jetted off to Ibiza for a week of nothing but soaking up the rays. And I really do mean nothing but.

The question we all ask as soon as our holiday is booked though...  What do I wear? Since I love wearing a lot of black, the sunshine isn't really my best friend. When temperatures are reaching 30 degrees though, somethings got to give.

On most days I opted for cute little playsuits or denim shorts with lightweight vests. And of course plenty of bikinis for lazing and swimming (okay so most of these were black, but very small so they don't count!) Maybe my best intentions to steer away from black didn't go completely my way but still......

I loved this little outfit - cheap and chic! The shorts are vintage jeans, which I cut and rolled the ends up on. The tassle top is a great little buy from Primark at only £8. I may roll out this little look for T in the Park. Most likely I'll need long socks and a raincoat considering it is Scotland. Add my trusty Jigsaw sunglasses and voila!
H&M playsuit and sandals, Vintage bag, Jigsaw sunglasses
Vintage straw hat
One handsome boy wearing H&M shirt and Jack Wills shorts.
Topshop pleated dress, H&M sandals

Send me back there now before the rain starts!

In The Noughties

Okay so when you think of a decade you think of a certain music style, right? The 60's have the Beatles, the 70's have Queen, the 80's have Duran Duran and the 90's have Oasis.

So what did my era have in the noughties? Britney Spears? No thank you. I'll take something a little more.... tuneful.

I was back at my parents house last week and found myself delving back into my CD collection from high school. Amongst the mass of mix CDs exchanged between friends were some amazing classic albums. From Bowie to Led Zeppelin, it was all there. It let me rediscover The Killers. A few years ago I wouldn't have touched that album after far too much overplaying of  every song on the radio. Wolfmother were there too! I'd forgotten they even existed. Don't get me wrong, there were some horrors in there too. (coughMudvaynecough)

It was during this rummage I stated thinking... what did the noughties actually give us? As it turns out.. rather a lot! The noughties gave us an influx of indie bands. You'll never find me  complaining at skinny jeans and ragged indie boys though! In fact, not only did it bring us Indie but also some whole new genres to love. Think of Mumford and Sons, Noah and the Whale, Bon Iver, Laura Marling. All beautiful song makers for whom a whole new genre has to be created. That kind of folk rock scene is huge right now. And rightly so.

Why don't you go and find an old playlist, mix tape or just have a rummage right to the bottom of your CD stack. You may find something amazing you forgot you even had!

Or like me, you might find this! E x

Things I like...

Everyone knows I love a jumpsuit. So it'll come as no surprise that I want one of these to call my own!

By Alessandra Rich and available at Net A Porter .

If the fashion gods were ever to gift me such a jumpsuit, I'd team it with my gorgeous new Aldo block heels and my fave skinny vintage belt.

Enough of frivolous fashion talk... today I have been listening to the new album by Noah and the Whale. Now I know I'm a little behind the times and this has been out a while now but my ears have been stuck back with my 16 year old self. Sometimes you just have to revisit the songs that got you through high school.

Anyways, what an album it is. It's the kind of music that gives you a little knot in your stomach when you think of all the things you'd like to be doing. A definate car album for days you just need a little lift.
